Congratulate to Mr. Tiong, the Champion of Malaysia Weiqi Tournament 2006 held at Japan Club, Kuala Lumpur on 5 Feb 2006.
Mr. Tiong will be representing Malaysia to the 27 World Amateur Go Championship on 25 May - 02 Jun in Japan.

The 10th Samsung Cup Champion
13 Jan 2006, for the first time in history, Chinese player won the first ever Samsung Cup (Internationa Title) since 1996. Luo XiHe (罗洗河 China 9-dan) defeated Lee ChangHo (李昌镐 Korea 9-dan) by 2-1 in best of three match.
Lee ChangHo (nickname : Stone Buddha) is a Korean 9-dan professional and considered by many to be the strongest player in the world, he has won the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Samsung Cup in 1997 & 1999.
Luo XiHe, born in 1977, started playing Go in the age of 6, became a pro in 1989, won Chinese National Go Individual tournament in 2000, won NEC Cup in Year 2001, promoted to 9-dan pro in 2002. Won 10th Samsung Cup in 2006.

Weiqi "围棋" is an ancient game originated from China, with a definite history of over 3000 years, although there are historians who say that the game was invented more than 4000 years ago. The Chinese call the game Weiqi, but it is commonly know as Go internationally, in Korea it is known as Baduk, and Japanese call it Go or Igo, while Taiwanese call it Goe or Weiqi. This game is getting increasingly popular around the world, especially in Asian, European and American countries, with many worldwide competitions being held. |
